Our progress so far

4th May 2022
How we’re shaping the new peer support service for kinship carers and what are the next steps.

We’ve been recruiting 18 values-led people to join our team. We’re delighted that we will have all our team in place by the end of May, including local staff who will be supporting kinship carers to set up groups in their local area. The team have built a map of where support is needed and how our team can help.

We’ve formed our Steering Group, which includes four kinship carers, and is supported by specialists in areas such as digital inclusion and evaluation. The group will hold us accountable and ensure our service meets the needs of as many carers as possible.

More than 130 kinship carers have signed up to get involved in the service in different ways. More than 40 local authority representatives joined online events to find out more about the service. We’re delighted with the response we have had, which further demonstrates the need for our service.

What’s next for the peer support service?

Our teams will begin local outreach in May, meeting local organisations and kinship carers to build relationships and explore the possibilities for peer support groups in every region in England.

If you’re a kinship carer, read more about how you can get involved.
